Benefits of having a technology screening panel
1. Panelists may read about a technology that would be useful to their company. They may act by making further inquiries about licensing / adopting / incorporating a technology into their business or manufacturing processes.
2. Panelists may provide ideas about where the technology would be useful. If it would not be useful in their own companies, what firms would find it useful?
3. If panelists need to know more about a technology in order to determine if it is useful, the technology commercialization project team will go back to the researcher or institution to get the answers and distribute them to the panel afterward, probably via email.
4. Panelists will have opportunities to network and exchange ideas. Those discussions may yield creative ideas/solutions, collaborations, joint ventures, partnerships, etc.
Discussions of the technologies will be kept as focused as possible in order to use time efficiently. Teleconferencing and intial email technology reviews will be used where possible to keep the process efficient. The panelists' ideas to improve the process will be considered.
